Dublin, Dubai and Dolphins!
Hello everybody. Sorry it has been a while since I last blogged but what with the dreaded lurgy, trips away, birthdays and whatnot, I just haven’t found time to sit down and update you all – but I am now! I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day, whatever you got up to.
This weekend Eamonn and I travelled back to Ireland to appear on ‘The Late Late Show’, which is absolutely huge out there and I mean EVERYONE watches it. On the way home I was stopped so many times (including in the ladies’ loos at the airport!) by people who said they’d seen us on the telly the night before. It was a great show, we met the first gay couple to become civil partners in Ireland and Brian Kennedy, who sang at our wedding, was also a guest, so there was a bit of a ‘marriage’ theme running through the evening. If you didn’t see the show you, by the wonders of the internet you can watch it here.
As a birthday treat Eamonn whisked me and Jack off to Dubai and we stayed at the stunning Atlantis hotel. It was pretty special for Jack as it’s the equivalent of Disney for kids in terms of things for them to do – water parks, aquariums etc. We had the opportunity to swim with dolphins while we were there and I have to admit I was VERY nervous but I couldn't show it as I didn't want to spook Jack, who was very keen!
It was an amazing experience. I was surprised how smooth the dolphin's body was and amazed by the sheer strength of these beautiful mammals - they're solid muscle!
As much as I enjoyed it though, I did feel a sense of sadness - these gorgeous creatures should be out in the ocean where they belong - not lugging TV presenters around a pool to get rewarded with a fish.
Whilst there, we squeezed in a visit to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa tower– pretty impressive even if I do say so myself! Had it not been for the hideous stomach bug that Eamonn and I got on our return (well it was a bug for me and a Very Serious Tropical Disease in Eamonn’s case!) it was such a great getaway.
My other news is of course, that I shall be stepping in to Holly’s shoes and covering for her on This Morning whilst she is off having her second baby. I’ll be covering the first three weeks from 14th April whilst Holly puts her feet up and then the lovely Jenni Falconer will do the next three weeks. Whilst Phil has a well-deserved break over the summer, my husband and I shall take on presenting duties. It’s going to be a busy few months, I can tell you!
